Everything EoMEoTE

So, you’ve seen the logo and you’ve wondered – what the heck is EoMEoTE and what does it stand for?  Well, wonder no more.  This page tells the illustrious story of the End of Month Egg on Toast Extravaganza, the web’s only ovo-literary event.

It started out innocently as a joke between me and Antony of Spiceblog.  With the plethora of eccentrically-named food blog challenges (Is my Blog burning?, Does my Blog Look Good in This?, Sugar High Fridays etc etc), Anthony was lamenting the fact that he felt he was suffering from event burnout and suggested a whole bunch of woderfully bizarre challenges (like All Offal October, Haven’t Had These Since Prison Wednesdays, or Where I Hid the Gin Sundays).  In the comments, I suggested a whole bunch more, including the End of Month Egg on Toast Extravaganza.  And then Anthony took it one step further at the end of that month by posting a breakfast pic of egg on toast and officially calling it his EoMEoTE #1 entry! I naturally had to call his bluff and sumbit my own entry and voila – an event was born.

Very soon after EoMEoTE’s conception, Anthony felt we had “gone mainstream” and moved on to other things, leaving me in charge.  And shortly after that, the event somehow also acquired a literary side-theme.  Egg on toast haikus, egg on toast limericks, egg on toast parody poetry, egg on toast tabloid headlines… you name it, we’ve tried it, usually with very amusing results, as you’ll see in the roundups below.  I kept threatening a Beowulf theme, Elizabeth kept begging me not to.  It was all adrenaline!

But sadly, I kind of ran out of steam and inspiration after 17 editions and a whole lot of lengthy roundups, and eventually I just did not announce the next round.  But reading back now over the previous entries, I am amazed at the rampant creativity and lateral thinking that it brought out in the food blogging community.  I also think that there are now so many new bloggers that it may be time to revive the event and introduce it to the “younger generation” of food bloggers.  I have a couple of themes up my sleeve, and as soon as I have my upcoming hosting duties for WTSIM and DMBLGiT out of the way, you may well witness the return of EoMEoTE.

Stay tuned.
