Rhubarb fool was one of the summer puddings that my mother made regularly, that and gooseberry fool, when we were growing up. A good fool needs the tart fruit to be good and my mother in law, moved from England to South Africa has made a long held family tradition of guava fool.

My mother often used custard as well as cream in her fools and my MIL's recipe uses a mixture of condensed milk and cream, so it's very adaptable - just always taste as you mix to get the right amount of tartness left, without it getting sickly sweet..

It's good to have a braai tradition going in London! Those sosaties look delish, my mouth is watering and I'm looking forward to some braai weather soon - it's freezing today - chill wind and rain after a week of warm spring weather!

Lysy

It's lovely that you're creating new traditions, and I'm glad that the English weather doesn't completely rule out the braiis! The name of that wine is just brilliant - where did you find it?!

Niamh

I know what you mean and I think it's especially poignant for ex-pats.

This looks wonderful! :)

Niamh

Oh... and thanks for the link :)

courtney

Everything looks wonderful.Thats the great thing about being adult, making your own traditions. I cracked up laughing at your comment on my post about your relative. I have seen those circles form in regards to me ( not asked for).

Andrew

I think I made a rhubarb fool some time back... I'll have to dig out the recipe to see how it compares to yours. I'm sure it used both double cream and greek yoghurt.

Darius T. Williams

You already know these pics look great! I'd try this 'fool' anyday!

Kevin

I really like the sound of this fool with the tart rhubarb and cranberries.

Dragon

I'd love to know what 3 crimed you'd commit. :) Lovely, lovely fool.

Paz

What an interesting sounding combination. I like the sound of this! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I could not agree with you more. Old family traditions give us roots, but new traditions give you wings to try out new things, new friends, new places to visit.....most exciting. Our family tradition was Sunday nights.......make sandwiches with leftover "skaapboud" and beetroot...mmm yum! When we moved to Cape Town I started a tradition that after Easter Friday's church service, we all have lunch together and everyone brings their signature dish......this lunch lasts long into the night and then we have "leftover sarmies" for supper.

The next I plant in my garden is going to be rhubarb. I miss it so much, we used to eat it a lot when I was a kid.

Nicisme

Looks like you had a fabulous day! And that dessert is a delicious, light way to end the meal.

Coffee and Vanilla

Never had fool in my life... but it looks and sounds really good. I bookmarked your recipe to try it out :)

Have a nice day tomorrow! M.
