Sorry to hear about the early demise of summer, but the fish pie truly does look fabulous.

Antonia

Your fish pie looks truly divine. One of the most comforting British dishes ever, I think. I could dive right into that one right away!

Fish pie was one of the first 'English' things I learnt to cook as so many of my clients asked for it. So simple and delicious if you get it right. BUt not even for your gorgeous fish pie would I swap a little more summer this year. Just one or two more weekends would be good!

I've been lurking a bit on your site, and have yet to comment, but this recipe looks great, and has compelled me to. I've actually never heard of a fish pie before. But it sounds great. And definitely something I'd love to try...

Hah! This reminded me of a witty British farmer who in reference to London's weather said, "I believe summer fell on a Wednesday there last year." :)

That fish pie looks fantastic, Jeanne. I have yet to make one, but yours is really tempting me.

Fish pie in a British pub in front of a log fire is one of my favourite things about winter! Seems a bit warmed down here in Brighton today - what do you reckon the chances are of a nice bank holiday weekend??! ;)

katie

I think your cloudy, damp weather has arrived here. The pie looks wonderful, and would be perfect for tonight... If I only had the smoked fish... and the potatoes....Sigh!
Summer was nice, wasn't it?

Cassandra

I just wanted to say this looks absolutely delicious. I've been reading your blog for a while 'silently' (and have tried a few of your recipes, always with good results). Will definitely try this when the London weather- as it inevitably will!- turns again & becomes grey & wet. For now, let's enjoy the sunshine though (glad the rain this week didn't continue).

Best wishes
Cassandra

This looks delicious.

Mackerel & gooseberry fish pie is really good - it helps if the mackerel is really fresh & I would not use the gooseberryies completely raw. I roasted them in the oven until they were soft and squishy and then add them in at assembly point. The children loved it when they were small.

I made yours recently and I have to say, your recipes have to get my Golden Truffle award.

Birgitta

This looks wonderful. I would like to give it a try. But I can't get smoked Haddock her, what else would be a good choice?
