Saturday Snapshots #36

Lean on me, Vienna – August 2007

This heavily-laden marble gentleman forms part of the spectacular Pallas Athene fountain outside the Austrian parliament building in Vienna.  The fountain was built between 1893 and 1902 and features a 4-metre statue of Athena (goddess of wisdom) wearing a gilded helmet, as well as numerous marble figures.  It’s a visual treat both by day and by night, when it is beautifully lit.
