Window boxes – Munich, Germany 2007

Arguably South African’s greatest floral export, pelargoniums flourish in windowboxes the all over the world, adding colour to even the most severe building.  My first memory of Innsbruck when my mom and I visited in 2005 was falling in love with the proliferation of pink and red geraniums in every windowbox, and I have since learnt that they are de rigeur throughout western Austria and southern Germany.  This particularly exuberant example is in Munich, where I was last weekend and where the Oktoberfest is currently in full swing.

Thanks so much to all of you who voted for me in the 21010 SA Blog Awards!  I am one of the two finalists in both my categories and the winners will be announced at a ceremony in Cape Town tonight. Watch this space…

This is part of a series of non-food photographs that will be published every Saturday on CookSister – all previously featured  photographs can be viewed on the Saturday Snapshots archive pages.  All photos featured in Saturday Snapshots are available to buy as high-quality greeting cards or prints in my RedBubble store. They make gifts, for friends or for yourself!
