Escher architecture, City of London – 2009
MC Escher was a Dutch Graphic artist, best known for his mathematically-inspired woodcuts, lithographs and mezzotints, which often feature physically impossible constructions, explorations of infinity, and architecture. My friend calls it headache art. In this picture, a London curved glass building is reflecting its neighbour in ways that make it seem like a physical impossibility – the only reminder of the real world is the spiral staircase partially reflected on the right. Eat your heart out, Escher.
