Saturday Snapshots #14

Mississippi-Sunset

Sunset over the Mississippi River – Galena IL, October 2008

On my recent trip to the USA, we rented a car one weekend and drive west of Chicago, into the most picture-perfect midwest scenery you can imagine.  We drove until we reached the banks of the Mississippi river at sunset.  Yes, even though we were in one of the most northern USstates, we were standing on the banks of the Mississippi which empties into the Gulf of Mexico over 2000 miles away.  Not for nothing is this river the stuff of legends. Seeing it for the first time at sunset on a windless evening with no sound except a chorus of insects and frogs, and the occasional splash of a leaping fish, was utterly spellbinding.
