Announcing My Legume Love Affair – the 16th helping

And so I’m back… from outer space the Munich Oktoberfest, having consumed my quota of excellent beer and rotisserie chicken for at least the next twelve months.  It also looks like the frenzied work that Val, Giz and I have been doing in the final push to get the BloggerAid cookbook ready for printing is now almost all done, and it’s time I got back into regular blogging.  And what better way to do that than by hosting one of my favourite events – My Legume Love Affair!

My Legume Love Affair is an event created and administered by the lovely Susan of The Well-Seasoned Cook.  A legume can refer to all vegetables (if you speak French!); to a family of plants (which includes such diverse things as mimosas, lupins and sweetpeas); or to the dried seeds of some of these plants that are grown as food crops.  Much as I’d love to see what edible delights you can create with mimosa flowers, this event focuses on recipes using legumes in the second sense, and a comprehensive list can be found here.  I’ll also accept products derived from legumes on this list, like hummus (made from chickpeas) and tofu (made from soya beans).

So be all means, let your imagination run wild, but please make sure that you follow the rules listed below in order to be eligible for the lovely prizes. Yes, folks, one lucky winner (to be selected at random) will receive not one but TWO prizes!  The first is a wonderful book personally selected and purchased by Susan: 366 Delicious Ways to Cook Rice, Beans, and Grains (which also contains non-vegetarian recipes).  The second is a Hurst Bean Box (six bags of the winner’s choice of Hurst Bean products, suitable for every diet, generously provided by Hurst Bean).  Owing to shipping restrictions, this prize can only be awarded if the winner is a US resident.

Here is the small-print:

1.     Prepare a dish where legumes are the central ingredient.  Although legumes are often the vegetarian’s choice of protein, you are not restricted to vegetarian recipes – any dish, savoury or sweet, large or smal where the legumes are the star will qualify.

2.    You can submit as many entries as you like, although you will only be entered into the prize draw once.

3.    Only entries in English will be accepted.

4.    All entries must be received by midnight GMT on 31 October ’09 and please note that late entries will not be included in the round-up.

5.    Your post must link to this announcement as well as to Susan’s MLLA event page. Use of the MLLA logo in your post is optional.

6.    I will accept recipes that have also been submitted to other events.  Recipes from your archives or not specifically created for this event will only be accepted if they are re-posted with a link to this announcement page and Susan’s MLLA event page.

7.    If you don’t have a blog but would like to participate, send an email with the recipe and the above-mentioned details and your entry will be included in the prize draw.

8.    Once you have posted your recipe, please send an e-mail with MLLA in the subject line to emailcooksister[at]googlemail[dot]com and include the following:

All clear?  Well then – what are you waiting for?  Go show those legumes some love!  The roundup will be posted and winners announced on CookSister! in the first week of November.
