I’m Racing for Life

Race-For-Life-logo

As many of you will know, on 18 December last year my friend Christelle passed away after a 10 month battle with cancer, at the age of only 30. Fewer of you know that in the past 7 years, my sister-in-law and my two best friends have each lost a parent to cancer, and my half-sister died of a very aggressive form of brain cancer, leaving behind a husband and two teenage children. In addition, three other friends of mine survived breast, testicular and skin cancer respectively. All three of them were in their 30s.

Those of you who know me well are also familiar with my aversion to strenuous exercise, so it may come as somewhat of a surprise to you that I have agreed to take part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in Maidstone on 4 June 2006, a fundraising run to raise money for funding cancer research. My friend Lesley and I will be running/walking/crawling for 5km around the park and we would really welcome your support.

No, I’m not expecting you to join us on our little outing, although you are more than welcome to (!!). But what you can do is to take a moment to sponsor us. It’s really easy – you can donate online by credit or debit card at the following address (free access to gorgeous pic of me & Lesley! How can you say no!):    http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/LandJ

All donations are secure and sent electronically to Cancer Research UK. You can donate as little or as much as you like (and that goes for the folks at reading this from abroad as well – even when you take the exchange rate into account, you can afford a £5 donation!)

Please join us in supporting Cancer Research UK and celebrating the lives of all those who have been touched by cancer, in the hope that this disease will one day be eradicated through the efforts of dedicated cancer researchers.

Christelle, Lucille, Paola’s dad, Bron’s dad, Andrea’s mom, Fran, Lizel and Adam – this one’s for you all.
