Chakalaka spice is a spicy bell pepper and chilli pepper dried spice from South Africa. You can substitute a local spice blend if you cannot get hold of it where you are.
Ingredients
1x400g tin chickpeas
125ml of the liquid drained from the tin of chickpeas
4 tsp lemon juice
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1.5 tsp tahini
¼ tsp
Robertsons chakalaka spice
(or substitute a similar local spice)
Instructions
Drain the chickpeas but reserve the liquid.
Place the drained chickpeas, garlic, lemon juice, tahini and chakalaka spice in a blender, then add 125ml of the reserved chickpea liquid. Pulse until the desired consistency has been reached (I like to leave a few larger bits in mine, rather than processing it to a totally smooth paste). Check for seasoning and add salt or more chakalaka spice as desired.
