Back and blogging

Well, I’m back from the south of France – safe and sound but none too pleased to be back in chilly, wet London when a week ago I was sunning myself by the swimming pool… But all good things must come to an end and, besides, I was missing my internet access too much!

Nick and I had an absolutely marvellous time, relaxing, exploring, drinking and of course, eating.  I have so much to tell you that I don’t know where to start!  What I will be doing over the next few weeks is doing a day-by-day account of the trip so that I can highlight my favourite food/meal of each day – and believe me, there was stiff competition for that title.  I will also be trying to intersperse the French tale with some golden oldie posts – stuff I have been meaning to blog about for ages but never quite got round to, so expect an eclectic mix over the next few weeks.  You are probably also beginning to think I am lying about having any photos to post on the site – but I do, really!  It just takes so long to edit them, caption them and upload them, but I hope to put up at least one album in the next couple of weeks.

Two "forthcoming attractions" that will most definitely be appearing on this blog are:

  • the tenth (can you believe – ten already?!?) edition of Is My Blog Burning?, the worldwide cooking event that is Alberto’s fabulous brainchild.  After last time’s challenging theme of terrines, this time round Jennifer of The Domestic Goddess has selected cookies as the theme. If anything, this scares me even more than terrines… I am not a natural baker (apart from scones, but I guess they don’t count as cookies in anybody’s wildest imagination!!) and the preciseness of baking tends to make me run a mile.  I am more of a "let’s add a pinch of this and see how it turns out" kind of cook, and that philosophy is not ideal for successful baking! But I’m also not one to run from a challenge, and nobody said IMBB would always be easy.  That’s just the way the cookie crumbles (hahahahaha!).  So I’ll be filling cookie tins with the best of you on 21 November! Please pop in when you smell baking cookies…
  • the fourth edition of Worldwide Wine Blogging Wednesday, the wine blogging event dreamed up by Lenn of Lenndevours. This time round, Derrick from An Obsession With Food has chosen New World Riesling as the theme – after the past three red-themed WWBWs it will be great to taste some whites.  Since Riesling is one of my favourites I think I’m going to have to go on a shopping trip to find something really nice.  Hmm, what a burden, having to shop for wine…! So watch this space for details on 1 December for Riesling revelations!
